The Story of Jaipur – The Pink City of India

Welcome to Jaipur – Where Royal Heritage Meets Timeless Charm

Fondly known as the Pink City, Jaipur is the capital of Rajasthan and one of India's most celebrated heritage destinations. A city where magnificent forts, royal palaces, vibrant bazaars, colourful traditions, and warm hospitality come together, Jaipur offers visitors an unforgettable journey through history and culture.

Founded in 1727 by the visionary ruler Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, Jaipur was India's first planned city. As the capital of the Kachwaha Rajput kingdom, the city was carefully designed based on the ancient principles of Vastu Shastra and architectural planning.

Its broad avenues, symmetrical streets, bustling markets, and beautifully planned squares were far ahead of their time, making Jaipur one of the finest examples of urban planning in the 18th century.

In 1876, during the visit of the Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII), the city was painted in shades of terracotta pink—a colour symbolizing hospitality and welcome. The tradition continues today, earning Jaipur its world-famous title as "The Pink City."

Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage City, Jaipur is renowned for its rich cultural heritage, magnificent architecture, traditional crafts, colourful festivals, and vibrant lifestyle, attracting millions of visitors from around the world every year.
